UC Health UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, external signage

Designed to meet the unique needs of complex neurological patients, the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute provides outpatient services, education for future care providers and ground breaking research to advance this specialized area of care.

While UC Health was planning the new building, our firm was asked to assist in re-envisioning the comprehensive wayfinding and donor recognition systems to align with the newly launched brand positioning.

EXPERIENCE-BASED INSIGHTS

The design process included immersive methods such as “Secret Shopper” observations, where our team stepped into the shoes of those who used the facility most and observed where there were challenges and opportunities for users first hand. We also moderated focus groups and key stakeholder workshops to identify the core challenges and a vision for the future.

BALANCING DESIGN ELEMENTS

Ensuring that the new branding was portrayed throughout the space was vital. The donor recognition seeks to honor the generosity of the building donors while complimenting the controlled hierarchy within the environment.

Highlighting the organization’s focus on innovation and tenacity for discovering the root cause of the toughest medical challenges, the signature red brand color within the wayfinding system seems to emanate from within. The boldness of the red is carefully balanced with crisp white and cool grays to assist in reflecting the organization’s brand in a way that is comforting and calming for patients.

The new system design seeks to evoke a sense of confidence in the care provided by the organization through its bold, yet streamlined aesthetic.
